In a message posted on the social media platform X, the president remembered that “at dawn, the Granma expeditionaries arrived and entered the homeland,” thus fulfilling the promise of historical leader Fidel Castro: “free or martyrs.”
He emphasized that the landing on December 2, 1956, marked the founding of the Rebel Army and the resumption of the armed struggle for Cuba’s definitive independence.
For his part, the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power, Esteban Lazo, also commemorated the anniversary and sent “congratulations to the members of our glorious Revolutionary Armed Forces, genuine representatives of the #UniformedPeople, a bulwark in the defense of the Homeland, the Revolution, and Socialism.”
Likewise, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero emphasized on social media that, in the face of current challenges, “the heroism and profound conviction of the Granma expeditionaries continue to inspire our resistance,” precisely at the moment when this historic anniversary is being commemorated.
