Brazil’s Electoral Court evaluates voting machines for 2026

Brasilia, Dec 2 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) is conducting public tests of electronic voting machines, 10 months before the 2026 presidential elections.

Mandatory since 2016, the test, one of the stages of the audit and monitoring of the electoral process, will continue till Friday.

A total of 151 people are participating. With 38 testing plans, the test will verify the systems used by the TSE to generate media, transmit and receive files, and capture and count electronic votes.

In addition to the systems, the hardware of the electronic voting machines will also be evaluated.

If critical issues regarding the reliability of the equipment are identified, the court will summon the researchers to participate in a new test, but in May 2026. The same procedures carried out this week will be repeated to confirm whether the deficiencies persist.

The test, accompanied by academic observers, is being conducted in a secure area located on the third floor of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) headquarters in the capital.

Access is controlled and monitored by cameras, and the area is equipped with computers, printers, tools, and supplies necessary for the process.

According to the TSE, the objective is to improve the electronic voting system.
