Official sources informed that during their stay in Damascus, the delegates will hold meetings with top government officials, representatives of civil society, and the committees investigating the sectarian violence in the coastal region and the southern province of Sweida.
A meeting is also planned with UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Najat Rochdi.
Upon their arrival in this capital, the UNSC members inspected the capital’s neighborhood of Jobar, one of the areas most affected by the war.
The delegation also toured several heritage sites in the old city, accompanied by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Alabi.
The Security Council, the leading United Nations body responsible for maintaining international peace and security, is composed of 15 countries: five permanent members, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, and China, and 10 non-permanent members, elected for two-year terms.
