Israel arrests 570 Palestinians in the West Bank in November

Ramallah, Dec 5 (Prensa Latina) Israeli security forces arrested some 570 people, including eight women and 41 children, in the occupied West Bank in November, the Palestinian Center for Prisoner Studies reported on Friday.

The institution highlighted in a statement that, since the outbreak of the current cycle of violence in the region in October 2023, Israel has detained more than 21,000 Palestinians in the West Bank.

Of that figure, 610 were women, and approximately 1,600 were minors, in addition to thousands of prisoners previously released.

The Center noted that during this period, the number of those imprisoned under the controversial law known as administrative detention also increased. This law is used to arrest Palestinians for renewable periods, typically ranging from three to six months, based on undisclosed evidence, which even the accused’s lawyer is prohibited from seeing.

Many detainees under this measure systematically begin indefinite hunger strikes to denounce their cases and force Israeli authorities to release them.

Palestinians and human rights groups affirm that administrative detention violates due process because it allows authorities to withhold evidence against prisoners while they remain detained for extended periods without being charged, tried, or convicted.
