In his address to more than 8,000 people attending the event, held in the Paul VI Hall at the Vatican, the Holy Father emphasized “the inestimable value of music: not a luxury for the few, but a divine gift accessible to everyone, rich and poor,” a release from the Holy See Press Office states.
For the first time, a pope participated in this performance, emerged “from the heart of Pope Francis,” as Leo XIV said.
The event was organized by the Dicastery for the Service of Charity, with artistic direction by Monsignor Marco Frisina, and featured the Choir of the Diocese of Rome and Canadian singer Michael Buble.
Buble performed his famous song “Feeling Good” and others such as “Bring It On Home to Me,” “Always On My Mind,” and his version of “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore,” with which he paid tribute to US composer Duke Ellington.
He also performed Christmas songs, but the highlight of his performance was his singing of Schubert’s “Ave Maria” in Latin.
During the concert, which was followed by a dinner for more than 3,000 people in need, the Bishop of Rome said, “Yes, music can elevate our souls!”
