Deadline extended for First Cuban Film Showcase and Competition

Havana, Dec. 24 (Prensa Latina) The First Cuban Film Showcase and Competition will continue till January 2026, with the deadline extended by the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) at the request of the filmmakers.

The Titón Awards ceremony will take place at the end of January, in an event dedicated to the centenary of Cuban filmmaker Alfredo Guevara, which aims ay prromoting technical skills and expand screening opportunities for Cuban cinema.

In its original announcement, the deadline for submissions was December 10, and the showcase was scheduled to run until the 29th.

“I think it’s good news that we’re giving our audiences the opportunity to see what the country’s independent filmmakers have done, and not rushing through that process just to meet a deadline,” commented ICAIC President Alexis Triana.

In a previous press conference, the director explained that productions or premieres made between January 2024 and October 2025 are being accepted, with no length limit, in the Documentary, Animation, and Fiction categories.

To date, more than 74 audiovisual works have been registered in various genres, and they are still receiving submissions, noted the president of the cultural institution, which is one of the reasons for extending the submission deadline.

“We want these registered films to tour Cuba, for audiences to see them; this first showcase aims to expand, to ensure screen time for these materials,” Triana emphasized.
