Prensa Latina highlights Xinhua’s work on its 95th anniversary

Beijing, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) — Prensa Latina has congratulated the Xinhua News Agency on its 95th anniversary, highlighting the Chinese media outlet’s role in defending the truth and its work on behalf of the Global South.

In a letter addressed to his counterpart, Fu Hua, the president of Prensa Latina, Jorge Leganoa, conveyed the recognition of the journalists and staff of the Latin American news agency.

Leganoa underscored the historic bonds of brotherhood and camaraderie between the two institutions—which, beyond being allied media outlets, have served as partners in defending the truth and the cause of the peoples of the Global South.

He also highlighted Xinhua’s trajectory, tracing it back to the years preceding the founding of the People’s Republic of China—a period during which the agency contributed, through its communication efforts, to paving the way toward a “New China.”

Ninety-five years since its inception, the name “Xinhua”—which means “New China”—reflects a forward-looking vision that has accompanied the country’s transformations, he noted.

Leganoa further acknowledged the international prominence of the Chinese agency, citing the World Media Summit—now a benchmark in the field of social communication—as a prime example.

In his letter, he emphasized Xinhua’s progress toward becoming a world-class news agency, noting the quality of its multimedia content, its technological infrastructure, and its humanistic approach, which remains closely aligned with the Global South.

The president of Prensa Latina described Xinhua as an alternative to capitalist media hegemony—a brand recognized for the reliability of its content and the professionalism of its staff.
