Cuba advocates for digital sovereignty and equal access to AI

Beijing, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) — Representatives from Cuba advocated today at the 7th World Media Summit for the need to ensure equitable access to artificial intelligence (AI) and to prevent technological gaps from deepening inequalities between nations.

The Cuban delegation is led by Liudmila Alamo Duenas, Deputy Head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), accompanied by executives from the island’s media outlets.

Alejandro Gomez, Vice President of Prensa Latina, noted that the summit provides an opportunity to analyze the challenges posed by AI amidst the current technological revolution, while ensuring that the Global South is represented in the debate.

Randy Alonso, Director of Ideas Multimedios, described the summit—held on the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese news agency Xinhua—as highly significant, emphasizing the relevance of discussing the role of AI in contemporary journalism.

Meanwhile, Yuniel Labacena, Director of the newspaper *Juventud Rebelde*, highlighted the importance of the event for Cuban media outlets, which are currently undergoing editorial, technological, and economic transformations.

Jose C. Zaragoza, Director of Cuban Television, underscored that participating in the summit creates opportunities to forge alliances and strengthen cooperation with other media organizations.
