The agreement was finalized during an institutional visit to Cefas by CEAC Director Yusmila Helguera Pedraza, which took place from November 1 to 7, a source from the Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies (Aenta) informed Prensa Latina.
The program included meetings and exchanges with British specialists, aimed at sharing knowledge, learning about ongoing research, and identifying new opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions.
Key topics addressed included blue carbon, the blue economy; pollution from microplastics, mercury, lithium, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); oil spills; sediment dating; naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM); and food security.
This meeting builds upon existing collaborative ties between the two centers.
A Cefas delegation visited the CEAC last January with the goal of advancing joint research and projects concerning blue carbon and other areas of common interest.
Cefas is a UK executive agency specializing in marine and freshwater environmental science.
The CEAC, based in Ciudad Nuclear, Cienfuegos, is affiliated with the Agency for Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies.
