Cuba and Serbia seek to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation

Belgrade, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) Relations between Serbia and Cuba are at an exceptional level, lawmakers Boyan Torbica and Djordje Komlenski, from the Socialist Movement, stated on Wednesday.

Both legislators met with Cuban Hero Fernando Gonzalez Llort, who is visiting Serbia, and Ambassador Leyde Ernesto Rodriguez.

In the interest of continuing inter-parliamentary cooperation, Torbica informed about the setting up of a Cuba friendship group, in which “there is always great interest on the part of the deputies, which confirms the determination to develop parliamentary contacts.”

The legislator thanked the Cuban representative for his stay here on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO)’s aggression, and added that “our two countries have been struggling for decades to remain independent and go their own way.”

During the meeting, Bojan Torbica thanked Cuba for its principled position that Serbia should be an integral and united state, and Fernando Gonzalez Llort pointed out that his country will continue to support the territorial integrity and sovereignty of this nation, diplomatic sources reported.

González Llort briefed his interlocutors about the consequences of Washington’s economic and political sanctions against Cuba, which have lasted for more than six decades and have been tightened even more in recent years.

The Cuban representative thanked the Serbian parliamentary friendship group for its constant support and solidarity, and pointed out the need to “continue to work to develop cooperation in the fields of bioenergy, the pharmaceutical industry and higher education, as well as culture, entrepreneurship and agriculture.”
