Buenos Aires, May 7 (Prensa Latina) The Argentine Senate will start the debate on the Omnibus Law, which establishes the delegation of legislative powers to President Javier Milei, and which has been strongly criticized by social and union organizations.

After being partially approved in the Chamber of Deputies, the law will be debated by the senators in charge of Constitutional Affairs, General Legislation and Budget and Finance.

Minister of the Interior Guillermo Francos, Deputy Chief of Staff José Rolandi and the Secretary of the Treasury Carlos Guberman, among others, were invited to appear before the commissions.

Last week, the lower house of Congress approved with 142 votes in favor, 106 against and five abstentions, the so-called “Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of Argentines,” which grants powers for one year to Milei under the pretext of declaration of a public emergency in administrative, economic, financial and energy matters.

It also provides for the reform of the State, the privatization of public companies, the modification of the labor system, the replacement of compensation with a severance fund that will make each worker pay their own dismissal, and changes in the pension system that make it possible to increase the retirement age of women, among other measures.

The decisions were rejected by lawmakers from Unión por la Patria, the Left Front and some other groups, but those votes were not enough to reject the project.
