Magistrates defend transparency of electoral process in Nicaragua

Managua, May 13 (Prensa Latina) Magistrates Blenda Rocha and Cairo Amador, president and vice president of Nicaragua's Supreme Electoral Council (CSE), assured on Thursday that the process towards the elections is proceeding in a transparent manner.

According to what Rocha explained to Radio La Primerisima, it is important for the people to know that the terms established are those established by law.

In that regard, she specified that the constitution of the departmental and regional electoral councils is carried out at least five months before general elections, scheduled for November 7.

The process did not begin with us (the new CSE, elected on May 4), it began with the political parties and their decision to participate, Amador commented.

The electoral power’s vice president compared the process towards the polls as an athletics race, to which the competitors must have the physical and mental disposition to run.

Especially if it is a marathon, they must be coordinated, he said.

On Thursday, the magistrates will examine the inscriptions of alliances made on Wednesday by the political parties and they will have until Friday to issue a verdict, Rocha explained.
