Colombian Government orders to disclose vaccine purchase contracts

Bogota, May 24 (Prensa Latina) Monday is the deadline for the Colombian Government to produce the copies of all contracts with various pharmaceutical companies for the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines to the Anti-Corruption Institute.

Likewise, the administration of President Ivan Duque must inform whether it received any advance payments to ensure the timely delivery of the vaccines purchased from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca and through the Covax mechanism.

If so, it will report on the amount of each disbursement, through which agency it was made and when the payments were made.

The Administrative Court of the Department of Cundinamarca issued the orders after hearing two appeals in which the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management denied access to information related to the contracts to acquire the vaccines.

The Unit pointed out that such information was classified because it dealt with diplomatic matters and negotiations, as well as public health.

The Court noted that the classification invoked was not applicable, after assessing that it is a matter of constitutionally protected human rights related to the access to information, freedom of thought and opinion.
