Iran’s Navy sails for first time in Atlantic

Tehran, Jun 11 (Prensa Latina) For the first time, Iran's Navy is sailing in the Atlantic Ocean as a reflection of its strength, Deputy Chief of the Iranian Army for Coordination, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, said on Friday.

The fleet is made up of Sahand destroyer and support vessel Makran, which set sail on May 10 from Iran’s southern port of Bandar Abbas, crossed the Cape of Good Hope and are sailing the Atlantic waters, the high-ranking official said.

According to the rear admiral, the two Iranian Navy ships collaborate with international law to sail wherever in defense of the resources and interests by the Islamic Republic.

Meanwhile, US State Department spokesman Ned Price threatened to detain the Iranian Naval fleet in the Atlantic if it violates laws.

In 2020, the Pentagon mobilized a war fleet in the Caribbean Sea to prevent Iranian tankers from reaching Venezuelan ports, in an attempt to maintain a blockade against the South American nation.
