CCSS reports 15.7% of Costa Ricans vaccinated against Covid-19

San Jose, Jun 23 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) reported Tuesday that as many as 795,063 people (15.7% of the country´s 5,075,000 inhabitants) have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

After CCSS´ weekly report, Medical Manager Mario Ruiz stressed that from December 23, 2020 (as vaccination campaign started off) to past Monday the technical health teams used 2,331,030 Pfizer / BioNTech and AstraZeneca vaccine doses.

According to the Integrated Vaccine System (SIVA) data, 1,535,967 of the total of vaccines used correspond to first doses; in other words, people who have already started their defenses against coronavirus, while 795,063 have already being protected.

SIVA referred to the application of 1,396,399 Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine doses to people aged 58 and older, of which 719,040 correspond to first doses and 677,359 to second doses.

From the very beginning, the elderly´s vaccination has been top-priority and we have made enormous efforts to guarantee it since they are the most vulnerable ones to the consequences of contracting Covid-19, Mario Ruiz stressed.

Regarding people aged 12 and 57 years of age, with at least one risk factor, SIVA´s statistics showed the application of 659,586 AstraZeneca doses (between the first and second, 12 weeks must go by), of which 643,320 are first doses and 16,266 are people who have already completed their stages.

Covid-19 vaccines reduce the risk of severe complications and the risk of death, so local health authorities harped on the need to complete the immunization stage, Ruiz said.
