US Senate still to finalize infrastructure legislation

Washington, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) Negotiations continue in the United States Senate aiming at finalizing the proposed infrastructure bill, a legislative priority of the Joe Biden administration.

Senators expect to hold a session this afternoon, after Upper House Majority Leader Charles Schumer announced last night that the final draft would not be ready until Sunday.

Additionally, he vowed to vote on the legislation before the Senate leaves for a summer vacation in a week and also plans to hold a vote on a budget resolution.

The recess was scheduled to begin on August 9th, but the Senate may miss the first week of its summer vacation.

This should be the last delay for the legislation, with negotiators meeting 24 hours a day to try to finalize their agreement, according to the newspaper’s website.

An agreement on the ‘main issues’ of the bill was reported days ago, last Wednesday, and the Senate Democrats, with the support of 17 Republicans, managed to overcome the initial obstacles.

According to local media, the bill is expected to be huge, with roughly 2,500 page drafts.

The plan, which is backed by Democrats and Republicans, will dramatically increase the country’s spending on highways, bridges and airports.
