Argentina to begin combination of Covid-19 vaccines

Buenos Aires, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) Argentinian authorities are distributing more than 1.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine throughout the country to complete full immunization against Covid-19 with combined drug schemes.

After the approval by the Ministry of Health after several clinical trials with volunteers who already had a dose administered, from Thursday until Saturday doses of the US vaccine will reach all 23 Argentinian provinces and the capital to move on in the inoculation of those waiting for the second shot although it was clarified that the combination is optional.

The Health Ministry expects to speed up the immunization schedule, taking into account that several people have been waiting for the second dose for months to complete the vaccination scheme.

On Wednesday, Health Minister Carla Vizzotti said at a press conference that preliminary data from temporary analyses of a collective vaccine combination study and international experience will be offered to complete the Sputnik V schemes (component 1) and AstraZeneca; Sputnik V (component 1) and Moderna, and AstraZeneca and Moderna.

Several volunteers participated in the study in the province of Buenos Aires, the capital, as well as in Cordoba, La Rioja and San Luis, to analyze schemes with the different vaccines available in the nation.

Priority in this stage will be given to people over 50 years of age and comorbidities.

In the case of the capital, the head of Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodriguez Larreta, explained that starting on Friday, they will begin to call everyone who has received the first dose of Sputnik V to combine it with a second dose of Moderna.
