Cuba is still reporting high numbers of Covid-19 cases and deaths

Havana, Sept 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is still reporting high numbers of Covid-19 cases and deaths every day. For example, it reported 7,747 cases and 89 deaths due to complications from the disease on Thursday.

In total, 720,739 Covid-19 cases and 6,056 deaths have been reported since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country in March 2020, the national director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Dr. Francisco Duran, said at his daily press briefing on television.

He mourned the deaths of two pregnant women, and added that the highest number of samples to detect the coronavirus (62,569) was analyzed on Wednesday, and a total of 8,453,475 real-time PCR tests have been run across the nation.

The expert pointed out that on Thursday, the balance between medical discharges and cases is positive, because 8,074 patients were discharged from hospitals after testing negative for the virus. Therefore, the country reports 675,413 Covid-19 recovered patients.

He said that 98,463 people are in hospitals or their homes, 55,036 of whom are suspected cases; 4,214 are under epidemiological surveillance; and 39,213 are still active patients.

Dr. Duran stressed the need to increase care of pediatric patients because 1,673 minors were reported on Wednesday with Covid-19; six of whom are newborns.
