Cuba to resume school year on Monday

Havana, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Around 84,585 pre-university students from high school, technical-vocational institutes (ETPs, in Spanish) and pedagogical training will return to classes on Monday in the gradual restart of the 2020-2021 school year, Education Minister Ena Elsa Velazquez announced.

These are the students of twelfth grade (pre-university), third and fourth year of teacher training education and those in third year of TPEs. The Minister confirmed that the resumption of the school year responds to the effectiveness demonstrated by the Cuban vaccines against the Covid-19 pandemic, whose three doses have already been received by most students.

However, she stressed the need to continue with the rigorous compliance of prevention measures, among them the use of masks and hypochlorite, cleaning of handrails and door handles, hand washing, physical distancing, daily research and keeping people who are not involved in teaching off the educational institutions.

The enrollment that starts next Monday represents 5% of the total number of students in general education, and the institutions will be in better conditions to use the physical space, the minister pointed out.
