International support for Havana Biennial

Bienal de La Habana, apoyo
Havana, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) More than 600 signatories from 30 countries today added their support to the Yes for the Havana Biennial declaration, which denounces attempts to boycott the most important contemporary art event in Cuba.

In his Twitter account, the director of communication of the Ministry of Culture, Alexis Triana, confirmed the support of the international community and affirmed that this letter is going around the world in six languages in a clear denunciation of the manipulation campaign against the island.

The statement initially published by the Mexican newspaper La Jornada includes the signatures of relevant personalities from Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Uruguay, Spain, Peru, El Salvador and the Caribbean island, who reiterated the importance of the event, which has become a reference of plurality and the most innovative tendencies.

The text, which in a few weeks doubled its scope, highlights the Biennial’s objectives for its anti-hegemonic character and constitutes an overwhelming response from visual artists, gallery owners, writers, thinkers, political scientists, among other intellectuals, to the ruse circulating from the U.S. and Europe.

Despite the boycott actions, this year the Organizing Committee affirmed the attendance of more than 300 artists from all continents in the three categories that the Biennial comprises , scheduled from November 12, 2021 to April 30, 2022 under the slogan Future and Contemporaneity.
