egypt-assures-to-have-enough-wheat-reserve-facing-crisis
Cairo, May 25 (Prensa Latina) The Egyptian Government reiterated that wheat consumption is guaranteed to the population until late in the year due to the level of storage and the harvesting season that is satisfactorily progressing.

With 103 million inhabitants, Egypt is the world’s largest wheat importer, and most of it came from Ukraine and Russia, which caused concern in this North African country, a great consumer of bread and other similar products.

We have enough wheat in the warehouses for four months, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali Moselhi said.

Speaking to a local television station, Moselhi said that so far, 2.7 million tons have been purchased to Egyptian farmers, although the aim is to buy more than five million tons in the current season.

Therefore, our reserves will last to the end of 2022, stated the minister, who highlighted the efforts to diversify wheat suppliers in the international market.

At a recent press briefing, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly stated that 10 million tons of wheat will be harvested in the current season, an unprecedented figure in this country.

Following the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Cairo approved new incentives to farmers to increase local wheat production due to the rapid rise in its price on the international market.
