Costa Rica to strengthen strategy for malaria elimination

San Jose, Sep 1 (Prensa Latina) Costa Rica is presently training its local health personnel so as to strengthen domestic strategy to fight off malaria by 2025, Dr. Isaac Vargas, National Coordinator of Malaria and Vector Control, praised Thursday.

In statements released on social networks, Dr. Vargas said the trainings are being conducted by the Health Ministry and the Costa Rican Social Security Fund, in partnership with the Regional Malaria Elimination Initiative (IREM), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) as well as the Inter-American Development Bank.

Workshops being held at Huetar Norte, Huetar Caribe and Central Pacific regions are seeking the way to train teams of specialists to fight off malaria, he said, while adding they´re aimed at rolling out detection, diagnosis and treatment processes for Detection/Diagnosis, Treatment, Investigation and Response strategy.

Dr. Vargas explained the workshops include the new operational definitions and processes described in the recently published Malaria Surveillance Protocol and the National Strategy for the Surveillance and Prevention of Malaria Reestablishment in Costa Rica. Costa Rica is currently making great efforts to move towards malaria elimination by 2025.
