Bogota, Sep 15 (Prensa Latina) Senator Gloria Florez, president of the Second Commission of the Congress, which deals with foreign relations, maintained the opinion that Colombia and Cuba are living historical moments of brotherhood.

In an interview with Prensa Latina, her first statement was to reject the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, which she described as inhumane and prolonged.

Florez affirmed that “Cuba represents for Colombia and the Government of Gustavo Petro and Francia Márquez a hope to continue contributing to peace in this country and across the region.”

“Cuba has been a country that, through its people and Government, has historically bet on spaces for understanding, talks, and political negotiation to the recent conflict we seek to overcome nowadays after decades of violence and war among the Colombians,” she stressed.

The senator stated that Colombia is in a perfect geographical position to unite the entire region, so if progress is made towards peace, it will have important implications for Our America.

She highlighted the agreement signed in 2016 between the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People’s Army (FARC-EP) and the Government of Juan Manuel Santos on behalf of the State, and now, the support for this new start of negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN).

“We hope to strengthen through this relationship not only the work towards peace in our country, which is the regional peace, but also to accompany Cuba in its human development efforts for the two peoples, improve the socio-economic conditions and fight together for this dream of the Greater Homeland (Latin America),” the congresswoman said.
