Cuban seismologists keep watch on earthquake in Mexico

Santiago de Cuba, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) Specialists of the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS) continue keeping a close eye out present situation with the 7.7-magnitude offshore earthquake in Mexico.

According to CINAIS´ brief report, it is considered as a superficial tremor because its depth was 15.1 kilometers, which should influence damage reported at significant distances.

Experts estimated these damages have local impacts due to the effects of surface wave interactios with some types of soils.

Cuba´s National Seismological Service (SSNC) has reported the waves caused by the earthquake, mainly surface waves, according to CENAIS.

Tuesday´s daily seismological report, at 06:00 local time, only includes an earthquake in the Santiago-Baconao area and another one in the Pilón-Chivirico area, in the southeastern strip, with 1.5 and 1.9 magnitudes, respectively.
