López Obrador warns not to get riled on relations with U.S.

Mexico City, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Monday warned not to get riled whether the Zacatecas Governor and U.S. Ambassador meet.

As to a question about an alleged security agreement -involving the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) – between U.S. Ambassador in Mexico Ken Salazar and the Zacatecas Gov. David Monreal, the Mexican leader cleared up that the Mexican Constitution forbids state governors to reach agreements with foreign executives.

López Obrador pointed out that, for this legal reason, if any document was signed, it is worthless, while reading Article 117 of the Constitution.

There is nothing written or agreed yet, and it is important that we all know this gesture helps to convey information, that we all know what our laws sat forth, and that, according to the Constitution, foreign policy corresponds to the Federal Executive.

He is responsible for foreign policy and represents the Mexican state, López Obrador reiterated.

We are not going to fight, but we are not facing times as our country was utterly pushed over by foreign agencies and organized crime.

Political opposition, which contradictorily was the one that opened the doors to U.S. meddling in these matters, called for the Secretary of Foreign Affairs to inform whether it was aware of agreements reached between the U.S. diplomat and the Zacatecas governor.
