Panamanian workers declare US ambassador persona non grata

Panama City, Dec 24 (Prensa Latina) The National Confederation of Workers of Panama (CNTP) on Saturday declared US Ambassador Mari Carmen Aponte, whom it accused of intrusion in national affrairs, persona non grata.

In a statement, this union organization said that this diplomat´s behavior responds to Washington’s over three-decade long policy of considering Panama its colony and backyard, with the support of successive administrations that allow this and shatter the sacrifice of generations to conquer true national independence and sovereignty.

In its statement, the CNTP recalled that one of the goals of the US military invasion on Dec.20, 1989, was precisely to install a puppet government subservient to the security interests of this foreign power.

It added that, in all these years, senior civilian and military officials have visited this country under the guise of helping fight the migration crisis or drug trafficking, but whose presence is an insult to the historic memory of independence martyrs and heroes.

The CNTP urged Aponte to stop interfering in Panama´s internal affairs and condemned the fact that she walks freely through this territory and ministries as if this country were a US associate State or colony.
