China suspends short-term for South Koreans over Covid-19 curbs

Beijing, Jan 10 (Prensa Latina) China announced on Tuesday the suspension of short-term visas for South Korean citizens, in reciprocity for Seoul's curbs to passengers coming from Chinese territory, under the argument of avoiding Covid-19 outbreaks.

An official note stated that the measure would be implemented to those seeking to visit China for business, medical treatment, transit and private matters.

The announcement added that the decision would remain in force “as long as discriminatory restrictions on Chinese travelers persist”.

Beijing thus began to comply with its warning that it will reciprocate border measures adopted by some 30 countries against outbound passengers, citing concerns about a possible new surge of Covid-19 cases in their territories.

From January 5, 2023, South Korea demands negative PCR tests for travelers within 48 hours or an antigen test conducted within 24 hours prior to departure.
