Office to promote business with Cuba opened in Indian state of Kerala

New Delhi, Jan 18 (Prensa Latina) The Indian Economic Trade Organization (IETO) opened a commercial office on Wednesday to promote business with Cuba in Kerala.

The new office was opened during a business forum held in Thiruvananthapuram that discussed trade and investment opportunities in Cuba, a diplomatic source stated Wednesday.

Cuba’s Ambassador to India, Alejandro Simancas, highlighted at the ceremony the traditional ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and the potentialities for developing bilateral economic relations.

IETO President Asif Iqbal mentioned that four multisectoral business delegations that traveled to Cuba were organized last year, and six business forums took place in different Indian states.

During the event, Cuban diplomat Abel Aballe told the business community attending the event the current state of the economic relations between the two countries and highlighted the different trade and investment opportunities in sectors such as tourism, renewable energy, mining, biopharmaceutics, and agricultural food, with emphasis on the sugar industry.

Cuban Ambassador Simancas and Minister for Law and Industry of Kerala, P. Rajeev, chaired a seminar on the potentialities for developing trade relations and bilateral cooperation.

Dr. Aleida Guevara, daughter of Ernesto Che Guevara, thanked the event for the gestures of friendship and solidarity from the people of Kerala towards Cuba, particularly the struggle against the genocidal economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island for more than 60 years.

Members of the Government of Kerala, the diplomatic mission of Cuba, and local entrepreneurs participated in the event.
