Left-wing publications are weapons of struggle (+Photo)

Havana, Feb 10 (Prensa Latina) In the face of the world's structural crisis, unity and the strength of ideas are necessary, a field where left-wing publications are weapons of struggle, it was affirmed at a meeting in the Cuban capital.

At the inauguration of the 1st International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Leftist Parties and Movements, being held at Casa de las Americas, the member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (PCC), Rogelio Polanco, called for the urgency of serious circumstances facing humanity and the need to think and act together.

At the opening session of the event, which was attended by nearly 100 delegates from thirty countries, Polanco, who is also the head of the PCC Ideological Department, pointed out that in today’s scenario there are no global responses in sight because capitalism cannot generate them, but rather it is the cause and it is responsible for its exacerbation.

He added that the patterns of consumption and the rules of bourgeois democracy are unsustainable, as shown by wars, climate change and phenomena such as coups, the judicialization of politics and increased inequalities.

In this context, Polanco stressed, the battle is one of ideas, as the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, said, because in the face of so many challenges the left cannot sit idle, it needs applied science, it needs to understand the world to transform it, and for this, publications are essential instruments for struggle

We must study, learn from others, cultivate convictions, feelings, reasons and faith in victory, Polanco emphasized, adding that it is essential to identify a common goal, because isolated we will not achieve victory.

The head of the Ideological Department thanked those present and the organizations they represent for their solidarity, and explained to them the scenario where Cuba operates, amid strong pressure to suffocate its economy through the intensification of the blockade imposed by the United States and numerous unilateral coercive measures.

Polanco also commented that these efforts are accompanied by a fierce unconventional war, but despite such aggression, Cuba and its social process resist and seek alternatives to move forward, guided by the PCC, he assured.

The inauguration of the event was attended by the member of the PCC Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization, Roberto Morales; the head of the PCC’s International Relations Department, Emilio Lozada; Minister of Culture Alpidio Alonso, and Casa de las Americas President Abel Prieto.
