Sweden denies that it will harbor nuclear weapons after joining NATO

Stockholm, Mar 8 (Prensa Latina) Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström denied on Wednesday that his country would harbor nuclear weapons from the United States after joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Billström noted that this stance would be enshrined in Sweden’s new law on the alliance, following the example of Norway and Denmark, where refusal to deploy nuclear weapons is documented.

The bombs are currently stored only in bases in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, and Türkiye.

In theory, the United States could establish its stockpiles on the territory of any other member country of the military bloc.

According to experts, the Swedish Government expects the changes to take effect before the end of the month.

Among the regulations to be approved is the law on operational military support, which regulates relations with other NATO members on providing and receiving military assistance.
