Venezuela condemns diplomat´s alarming health condition in U.S.

Caracas, Mar 16 (Prensa Latina) The Free Alex Saab Movement and family members on Thursday called for immediate release of Venezuelan diplomat who has been imprisoned for over 1,000 in the U.S. without receiving any assistance given his alarming health condition.

In a press conference, attorney Camilla Fabri made an urgent call to the world to condemn “Alex Saab´s alarming health conditions” and also called for the UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres to step in.

Fabri recalled the Working Group and four UN Special Rapporteurs expressed in July 2021 their deep concern about Saab´s spine-tingling health conditions, who was kidnapped in June 2020 in Cape Verde and then extradited to the United States.

On July 7, 2021, after many refusals, the Venezuelan diplomat was visited by his family doctor who reported a “worrying health condition”, being a stomach cancer survivor.

Saab´s wife said doctor detected anemia, anorexia, type-2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, hypertension, high risk of thromboembolic diseases, including pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis.

Fabri also remarked that, in spite of all these ailments, Saab was never allowed to receive any treatment.

Saab is imprisoned in the Federal Detention Center in Miami, Florida, where his prison situation is “even worse” than in Cape Verde´s, as he is denied family visits, which has also been victim of persecution by the United States and allies.
