FAO regional representative visits Cuba

Havana, Mar 27 (Prensa Latina) The Assistant Director General and Regional Representative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mario Lubetkin, kicked off a visit to Cuba on Monday.

A statement from FAO distributed in Havana on Monday said that the purpose of his visit is to strengthen and consolidate the work with the Government to advance the food and nutritional security agenda.

During his stay in Cuba on Monday and Tuesday, Lubetkin will meet with President Miguel Diaz-Canel, and other authorities.

The FAO official visited Panama, Mexico and the Dominican Republic previousl, with an agenda that began with his participation in the 63rd Annual Meeting of the Boards of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and IDB Invest, held from March 16-19 at the Panama Convention Center in Panama City.

During the meeting, the FAO representative participated as a panelist in the seminar Building Bridges to Promote Food Security and Sustainable Energy, which was held on March 17 in Room America A at the Panama Convention Center.

The panel discussed the importance of leveraging public-private engagement to foster collaboration to improve the integration of the agrifood supply chain in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Such a debate not only helps vulnerable populations, but also contributes to global economic growth, and to ensuring food and nutrition security, the press release said.

Subsequently, the FAO regional representative traveled to Mexico, where he had a working agenda that included meetings with the Secretaries of Foreign Affairs, Marcelo Ebrard, and Agriculture and Rural Development, Victor Villalobos, on March 21.

Lubetkin also participated in the 28th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government (SEGIB), which took place on March 24-25, 2023, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
