Possible Erdogan-Biden meeting at NATO summit

Ankara, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan might meet with US President Joe Biden at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit to be held next Tuesday, local media reported.

News report have referred to this probability, when the existing differences between both States are known, especially due to Washington’s threats of sanctions, following Ankara’s decision to acquire Russian-made S-400 rocket systems.

In addition, despite the White House’s call for a total boycott by Western powers of commercial ties with Moscow, Erdogan confirmed his decision to maintain economic exchange with Russia, Anadolu news agency noted.

During a short contact, Erdogan and Biden would address, among other issues, the NATO membership of Sweden, whose government allowed a new act of Koran burning in Stockholm, prompting Türkiye to restate its conditions for Sweden’s incorporation into the bloc.

Local television speculated that the meeting would take place within the framework of the NATO Summit, where the proposals of some of its 30 members to open the way for Ukraine’s accession to that military bloc will also be debated.
