Italy-Cuba association rejects EU parliament resolution against Cuba

Italia, Cuba, solidaridad
Rome, Jul 12 (Prensa Latina) The Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC) sent a letter to the European Parliament asking its members to reject a resolution against Cuba under discussion on Wednesday.

The letter, signed on behalf of more than 4,500 ANAIC members and, in general, of the Italian people in solidarity with Cuba, pointed out that this legislative initiative is full of false statements against a peaceful and democratic country that is in the vanguard in several social spheres globally.

Cuba is “a leading nation in defending human rights,” it is false what Resolution 2023/2744(RSP) states, which is being debated in the European Parliament this Wednesday. It accuses that nation of alleged links to terrorism, drug trafficking, and destabilization of the Latin American continent, the text notes.

“This false description of reality is at the service of the ideological hatred policy conducted by successive governments of the United States for decades, which have maintained a genocidal economic, commercial, and financial blockade to the detriment of the Cuban people for more than sixty years.”

“It is unfair to include Cuba in the list of countries that sponsor terrorism since the proven facts identify it as a victim of terrorism.” “It is false to say that the people in Cuba do not participate in the fundamental decisions that affect them, as always occurs.”

This anti-Cuban resolution is also “a cowardly attack on the highest offices and bodies of the European Union (EU), an unmistakable sign of the arrogance of its proponents, who believe that making accusations is a sufficient condition and does not require the burden of proof.”
