Venezuelan Atttorney General assures they fight against corruption

Santo Domingo, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan Attorney General, Tarek William Saab, assured today the Government of President Nicolás Maduro maintains a frontal fight against those who promote corruption through the theft of national assets abroad.

Saab, on a work visit to the Dominican Republic, told Prensa Latina that the Public Ministry investigated and prosecuted various cases of this nature, while dozens of detainees -after a complaint and investigation- were prosecuted and sentenced.

In particular, regarding the Venezuelan state company Citgo Petroleum Corporation, a subsidiary of the PDVSA oil company located in the United States and that Washington intends to sell illegally, blamed the administration of former President Donald Trump for this plan now continued by the current president, Joseph Biden.

Saab maintained that actions like this have the internal complicity of Venezuelans involved in transnational crimes. These are political maneuvers used at the time, he said, under the figure of the interim government of the failed Juan Guaidó.

In this sense, he recalled that Trump himself openly assured just a few weeks ago that during his administration he intended to keep Venezuelan oil and make the country collapse, which they did not achieve due to the people’s resistance to the more than 920 unilateral coercive sanctions imposed by Washington.

Saab, a well-known defender of human rights, affirmed that the world should know they have taken advantage of the internal political issue to steal assets abroad, such as the frozen gold reserves in the Bank of England, the almost one billion dollars retained in Portugal and others borrowed by governments for that indecency.

He also referred to the defeats suffered over the years by those who try to destabilize his country, actions previously orchestrated from abroad, particularly in Washington, with internal complicity, to overthrow the Bolivarian Revolution and its social inclusion project, regional and global integration.

In this regard, he mentioned, among others, the military coup attempts in 2002 against Commander Hugo Chávez, who started the socialist project when he won the presidential elections in 1998, and in 2019 against current president Nicolás Maduro, also victorious in elections.

Similarly, the assassination attempt against the latter in 2018 and even the attempted maritime incursion known as Operation Gideon, in 2020, which was quickly liquidated by the existing civil-military union in Venezuela, and which had the support of of the Colombian government and former conservative president Iván Duque.

Later, regarding next year’s general elections and the claims to run by Henrique Capriles, from the Primero Justicia party, and María Corina Machado, from Vente, both disqualified from holding public office, he stated that in view of the electoral event the most outstanding is the dispute between the political factors that are against the Government.
