Heat wave approaches Russian capital

Moscow, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) The Russian Meteorological Center Hydrometcentre on Wednesday warned residents of Moscow and the homonymous province about a tropical heat wave that is about to hit the region.

Hydrometcentre reported on its official Telegram channel that temperatures of 28–30 degrees Celsius are forecast for Moscow on Friday, up to 32 degrees on Saturday, and 29-34 degrees on Sunday.

Hydrometcentre Scientific Director Roman Vilfand commented that the weather in the Russian capital will be “dangerous” those days, because it is a dry heat wave, which can affect the elderly, and recommended staying hydrated and avoiding exposure to the sun.

The expert added that as of August 7, the high temperatures should begin to decrease, although people should be aware of possible new heat waves.

“This summer has really been atypical so far for the regions of western Russia, as temperatures have barely exceeded 15 degrees Celsius, and there have been abundant rains, unlike other areas of Europe and Central Asia where high temperatures have prevailed,” Vilfrand recalled.
