Bridges of Love: Cuba needs equipment for its development, not hatred

Washington, Aug 8 (Prensa Latina) The United States needs to send equipment to Cuba for its development and not hatred, activist Carlos Lazo, coordinator of the Bridges of Love movement, said on Monday.

While welcoming the delivery of a license to a private US company to sell heavy equipment to Cuba, Lazo pointed out that things like these are, in a way, loopholes in the blockade.

Hopefully more news like this will come, more will come, but we must continue to put pressure and raise our voices to end to the blockade and let Cuba live, he stressed during a direct message on social networks.

These are positive steps in the right direction, said the Cuban professor, who lives in Seattle and recalled that this is what it is all about, building bridges of love.

Those who want that there is economic activity, those who want Cubans to be able to carry out their life projects in their country, those who want Cuba to be removed from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism, are those who love and build, he added.

In that regard, he urged President Joe Biden to “hurry up and not wait any longer because there are many who are disappointed with the timorous policy of this administration that promised a change regarding Cuba.”

The blockade exists, but so do Bridges of Love, an Internet user noted. As long as there is a worthy Cuban, we will continue to fight for the lifting of the blockade, another web surfer commented.

For the first time in six decades, the United States authorized a private company to sell motorcycles, buses, trucks, construction and agricultural equipment to Cuba.

As announced by Katapulk, owned by Cuban-American entrepreneur Hugo Cancio, the company received an extended license that will allow it to send heavy equipment manufactured in the United States to Cuba between 2018 and 2023.

In May, Katapulk got a license from the Department of Commerce to export new and used high-end automobiles to Cuba, which with the current provision will extend the range of its sales.

Recently, John Felder, a Maryland-based veteran and businessman who for decades moved in shipping vehicles to the Caribbean, also received a license to export electric cars and scooters to Cuba.
