Syrian army repels attack by Daesh terrorists (+Photo)

Damascus, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Armed Forces repelled an attack launched by the Islamic State terrorist group (Daesh) on the town of Madan Atiq, in the province of Raqa, nearly 500 kilometers northeast of the capital, it was reported on Wednesday.

Military sources said that the attack killed a soldier and a fighter from the popular support forces.

Following the attack, the Syrian Army launched a combing operation in the area, during which they came into contact with the radicals, killing 10 and wounding more than 20 of them.

The sources denied that the extremists entered Madan Atiq, and assured that after failing, they withdrew to the Tanef area, where an enclave of United States forces is located.

Dozens of civilians and soldiers have died in recent months due to attacks or mines planted by Daesh extremists.

The Islamic State is increasing its attacks in the desert of Al-Badieh. The fundamentalists, as denounced by Damascus, receive logistical support, protection and intelligence information from the US military in Tanef, in the east of the country.

According to analysts, since its defeat in 2018, Daesh has resorted to gang warfare and attacks supported by clear instructions from foreign intelligence to wear down Syrian troops and their allies.
