In an official note, the Foreign Ministry thanked President Miguel Diaz-Canel for his invitation to the summit and for this political gesture.
The document states Mexico’s official position and indicates that, during its participation in the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the G77 + China, which took place on September 15 and 16 in Havana, Cuba, Foreign Affairs Secretary, Alicia Barcena Ibarra, expressed her gratitude.
Foreign Minister Barcena was able to confirm the importance of the G77+China in the international arena as the mechanism that brings together the largest number of States and addresses the most urgent issues on the international agenda and of greatest importance for the global South.
In order to be in a better position to accompany the group’s efforts, he told the Cuban government that Mexico will carry out an analysis of the G77 agenda to find those areas where it can contribute to join it in order to act as a single voice, in a clear desire to strengthen the negotiating position of this mechanism in the complex international scenario.
This exercise of identifying issues, the official note indicates, is necessary prior to transmitting the request to actively participate in the discussions of the G77 + China.
Mexico confirms its willingness to continue building bridges between the different international actors by making available to the Group the experience accumulated in recent years in the multiple groups to which Mexico belongs, where it has managed to bring positions closer together.
