Chile unfolds project to face water crisis

Santiago de Chile, Oct 5 (Prensa Latina) The Chilean government promised on Thursday to construct a desalination plant in Coquimbo in order to face the water crisis in the northern region.

Unlike the center-southern area, that one has not registered significant rainfall in 2023, which jeopardizes the water supply for the communities, and caused significant losses to farmers and small livestock producers.

In a tour across the affected areas, Chilean President Gabriel Boric said that the desalination plant would facilitate to distribute water for human consumption and irrigation.

“The process is too long, but we are going to do our best to shorten the deadlines,” the head of State added.

While awaiting the completion of the project, which could take several years, the president instructed the construction of several wells for consumption.
