Geneva, Oct 10 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Yván Gil on Tuesday highlighted Venezuela's progress in human rights, particularly in civil and political rights, and denounced the hate campaign promoted by the United States.

Speaking at the 39th United Nations Human Rights Committee, in this city, the senior diplomat stated that Caracas attends this meeting with a constructive spirit.

In addition to exhibiting “our achievements and progress” in the implementation of the postulates enshrined in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, we come to expose the challenges that still persist in this area, he said.

Gil, who traveled with a high-level delegation made up of members of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Supreme Court of Justice and other authorities, expressed Venezuela’s strong commitment to complying with the international obligations assumed, under the Human Rights Treaties.

He pointed out that in over a year, this is Venezuela’s fourth assessment under the Treaty, and this fifth is taking place in a crucial period for humanity, such as the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which caused Covid-19, and the imposition of neocolonialist recipes of domination, among others.

Faced with a “complex and conflictive” world, Venezuela maintains its Bolivarian diplomacy of peace, and flatly rejects any interventionist path that violates the principles of respect for sovereignty, the right to the people’s self-determination, territorial integrity and non-compliance and interference in internal affairs.

He assured that the Bolivarian Republic is a State that promotes and guarantees human rights, particularly civil and political rights.”
