Bolivia and Europe define collaboration agenda on lithium

La Paz, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Bolivia and the European Union (EU) are analyzing the bloc’s investment prospects in the industrialization of lithium, according to Karla Calderón, president of the state-owned company Yacimientos de Litio Bolivianos (YLB).

The EU expressed on Wednesday a “high interest” to the Bolivian side in investing in the lithium industrialization production chain, and agreed on a work agenda with YLB.

The ambassador of the European Union to Bolivia, Michael Doczy, expressed this interest in a meeting held in La Paz, in which the heads of the diplomatic legations of France, Helene Roos; Germany, José Schulz; Sweden, Nicolas Weeks; and Italy, Fabio Messineo, also participated.

“(…) they showed us their interest, their high interest in being able to invest in everything that is the productive chain for the industrialization of lithium,” said Calderón, who stated that the meeting was “quite productive, in which we already defined an agenda which we can work on.”

She went on to add that the Bolivian authorities “feel quite open to the investment possibilities of foreign countries.”

Bolivia constitutes the largest lithium reserve on the planet, with 23 million quantified tons in the process of international certification.
