Russia and Nicaragua to work against threats from the West

Moscow, Nov 7 (Prensa Latina) Russia and Nicaragua will counter "blackmail and threats" from Western countries, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said on Tuesday at a meeting with the head of the Nicaraguan Army, Julio Cesar Aviles.

“We reject the diktat and political pressure that are spreading in the world due to the transition from diplomacy to blackmail and threats by Western countries, headed by the United States,” Shoigu said, according to the Sputnik news agency.

We will oppose this with Nicaragua and other supporters, drawing attention to the fact that this kind of behavior is unacceptable, he added.

The head of the military department noted that “Russia highly values cooperation with Nicaragua in the international arena. Our countries share positions on the key issues of global and regional security,” he noted.

Russia and Nicaragua are developing “equal cooperation on a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including in the field of defense,”Shoigu pointed out.

Avilés is on a working visit to the Russian capital, and in addition to meeting with Shoigú, he plans other exchanges with other Russian high-ranking military chiefs.

In late September, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Denis Moncada noted in a commentary that the ties between the two countries are getting stronger.

Moncada stressed that Managua and Moscow cooperate in various fields, including peaceful nuclear energy and medical purposes, food, transportation, communications and industry.
