Russia, Latin America united for mother-child welfare

Moscow, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) The National Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology of Russia managed to gather more than 60 Latin American specialists in order to share good practices for mother-child welfare.

The two-week seminar was attended by doctors, scientists and nurses from Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Nicaragua and Cuba who shared experiences on mechanisms to be used in caring pregnant women and newborns.

The Director of the health institution, Dr. Gennady Tikhonovich, thanked participants for trusting in its experts´ professionalism and added the willingness to expand such an initiative to other Latin American nations.

Our mission is to bring the best technology, best science, best training and the best management methods to these territories.

This is impossible without training, without continuous and constant medical education. That is why the organization of our Training Center was a brilliant, timely and necessary event for our country and for our friends in the world 12 years ago, Tikhonovich emphasized.

Likewise, the Deputy Director of the Institute, Dr. Elizaveta Khamatkhanova, detailed in an interview with Prensa Latina that training foreign and national specialists through classrooms with simulators was the perfect option to mitigate infant maternal mortality, as sustainable development goals.

The head of Cuba’s national anesthesiology group Dr. Alioth Fernandez, on the other hand, described the learning sessions as successful, as well as the possibility of meeting and practicing with state-of-the-art technologies in the field of gynecobstetrics.

The Cuban physician argued that “Russia has a mother-child program too similar to ours. However, we still have to learn from their good things that we really need, and that is one of the benefits we take away from this seminar”.
