Camagüey, Cuba, Nov 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuba's largest province continues today in a second phase in the process of rehabilitation of water supply and sanitation that is being developed with the capital collaboration of the Saudi Fund.

The millionaire investment that began in 2016 and has enabled significant progress in the region with the largest hydraulic infrastructure in the country, now also focuses on the construction of conductors and rehabilitation of networks in the most populated municipalities outside the capital as Nuevitas and Florida.

In a first stage, the rehabilitation of the three modules of the Drinking Water Treatment Plant and the acquisition of five pumping stations resulted in the processing of some 1,800 liters of water per second, a significant improvement especially for the city of Camagüey, the third most populated in the nation.

At the beginning of the project, works on the Conductora de la Circunvalación of the capital city, the Conductora from the Máximo River, the Conductora Pontezuela, as well as the 45 kilometers of networks in the city of Camagüey, stood out.

The contribution of the Saudi Fund for Development reached 40 million dollars and made it possible to meet goals such as the level of the volume of water demanded, the continuity of the service itself, as well as the quality of the vital liquid.

For this second stage, the remote communities of Nuevitas in the northern coast of the province, and Florida, will benefit according to a report presented to government authorities by the management of the Cuban Institute of Hydraulic Resources.

In the case of Nuevitas, with about 39 thousand inhabitants, water is supplied by the Saramaguacán River basin, and the work on the remodeling of its water treatment plant is key for the population to have access to water in the best conditions.

By 2024, the city of Camagüey plans to install 75 kilometers of pipelines of different diameters, in addition to the installation of about 103 000 meters in homes, as well as including control valves and expense meters in the infrastructure.
