Mexico’s position in Gaza is to achieve peace, Lopez Obrador

Mexico City, Dec 21 (Prensa Latina) President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reiterated today that Mexico's position in the case of Gaza is to achieve peace in accordance with constitutional principles on foreign policy.

Asked about this in his morning conference, the president said that Israel’s aggression against the Palestinians is a complex issue of foreign policy definition.

We seek a peaceful solution to these conflicts and of course we are not in favor of the use of force or war, and we do want this confrontation to end, and we regret the number of human beings killed.

He insisted that it is necessary to help find a way out, and we define ourselves in a stronger way in this respect, that is why our policy of neutrality, but with nuances, and the Israeli government did not like it.

He considered it necessary to achieve peace without polarizing this confrontation, this is our position, and I am talking about nuances because we all condemn the aggression, the bombing, and we are going to help to achieve peace, the Israeli ambassador in Mexico did not like it because he simplistically believes that if we did not condemn Hamas we were in their favor.

What we did, he explained, was to act prudently in view of the magnitude of the retaliation as we are seeing with the loss of 20 thousand Palestinians, something very regrettable, but we are going to continue with our position of stopping the fire and seeking an agreement, and we have acted and voted in the UN in favor of an agreement, and we are going to continue to do so, he added.
