Special commission installed in Venezuela to investigate Citgo theft

Caracas, Jan 16 (Prensa Latina) The special commission that will investigate the theft of the assets of company Citgo Petroleum Corporation, by representatives of Venezuelan right-wing political parties and representatives of the 2015-2020 legislature, was installed here today.

The first vice president of the National Assembly (parliament), Pedro Infante, led the meeting in the Manuelita Sáez room, at the headquarters of the Legislative Branch.

This working group emerged last week at the proposal of the head of the Venezuelan parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, and was made up of 14 deputies from the ruling party and the opposition.

Rodríguez reflected on the topic in the ordinary session last Thursday and raised the need for “everything to be discussed with absolute clarity.”

You cannot light a candle for one saint and another, and you cannot fire one shot for the government and another for the opposition, he pointed out.

He stated that the crimes “are already clearly established and are public and notorious,” and what we want to know are the names, surnames, identity cards, and place of residence of each of those who perpetrated the crime.

He referred to the criminal, felonious and stateless actions of those who used the premises and the prerogatives provided by the national Parliament “to steal from an entire people”, assets that belong to the nation and at the same time enrich themselves at its expense.

The parliamentary leader recalled that at this moment there is a criminal who is a refugee in Spain (Dinorah Figuera) and uses the resources of the profits of the Citgo company to maintain her party and finance the political campaigns of the First Justice Party.

You cannot be a director of that organization and use Citgo’s resources and then hope to create a “completely clean” party to participate in elections of any kind in Venezuela, he said.

Where would they get the money to participate in the electoral campaign, from the Citgo company, he stated.

He recalled what those thieves did in the legislature from 2019 to 2020 in a shameless and brutal way: they “got their hands” on Venezuela’s resources, he said.

In that sense, he pointed out that the current National Assembly approved last year the Asset Forfeiture Law and the Venezuelan Assets Abroad Law, which protect the country from felonies.

He emphasized that in his opinion both laws can be applied to investigate where the resources that finance right-wing political parties in the country at the current time come from.
