Cuba:Vitolphilia Association ratifies tobacco heritage’s preservation

Havana, Jan 24 (Prensa Latina) The Asociación de Vitofílicos de Cuba (AVC in Spanish) (Cuba's Vitolphilia Association) ratified its will to preserve and conserve the tobacco cultural heritage of this country.

Spokesmen of that entity stressed that Cuban tobacco is a Premium product considered the best in the world due to the triple condition of soil, climate and experience of producers, and everything related to this industry must be preserved and reproduced. During the General Assembly of the AVC, held at the Museum of Music in Old Havana, the new president of the AVC, Maylet Uranga, expressed her satisfaction with the work of this Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

She said that from now on, she expects the growth of Cuban vitolphilia and the beautiful project it supports, as an additional impulse that gives prestige to national tobacco.

Uranga is also the owner of Uranga’s Colecciones Literary Café, and seeks to attract and incorporate new young lovers of lithographic rings and collections to the society, as well as to continue preserving her work.

At the meeting, the associates exchanged exclusive rings, vitolas, habilitaciones (lithographed foil that covers cigar boxes), vistas (sheets of lithographed paper that are pasted inside cigar boxes), and other pieces related to the island’s premium tobacco.

The new Board of Directors, elected at the meeting, is made up of nine representatives of Cuba’s Vitolphilia Association, now chaired by Uranga, who has been a member of that NGO for 14 years.

The literary Café of the Local Development Project Uranga’s Colecciones, located in the Historic Center of the City, serves as AVC’s headquarters and attracts tourists with exclusive books, exhibitions, workshops, lectures on cigars, art and vitophilia.

The headquarters is located in the former house of Bishop Juan José Díaz de Espada y Landa, which dates back to the 19th century, in the so-called Callejón de Espada, in Old Havana, and is a Cuban Local Development Project that promotes culture and the arts through various activities for the community.
