Argentine movements question validity of ruling on laws

Buenos Aires, Jan 25 (Prensa Latina) The chair of the Argentine Union for the Homeland (UH) lawmakers’ alliance, German Martinez, not only questioned on Thursday the validity of a report on a package of laws presented by the Government, but he also denounced institutional and political violations.

In statements to Radio 10, Martinez affirmed that none of the 55 legislators who approved a briefing on the Bases and Starting Points for the Freedom of the Argentineans Project knew what they were signing.

Furthermore, the head of UH accused the Executive led by Freedom Advances Party having a “vocation of infinite extortion” since Martinez considered that this space “did not keep its word” during the negotiations with other benches on that initiative.

The lawmaker granted that these legislators supported the initiative without knowing its contents and the document was signed by the authorities of the commissions 14 hours after its approval.

“The reasons why each legislator joined the majority opinion will start to transcend. Each one will call it whatever name they want. I can assure that behind it there are concrete things that have to do with resources and pressure on the provinces,” Martinez added.

The known Omnibus Law is made up of over 600 articles, setting the economic, social security, security, defense, tariff, energy, sanitary, administrative and social emergency until December 31, 2025.

Martinez states that such term may be extended by the Executive Power for a maximum term of two years providing the privatization of state-owned companies and enterprises.
