Argentine government orders ENACOM’s intervention

Buenos Aires, Jan 29 (Prensa Latina) The Argentine Government officially announced Monday that the National Communications Authority (ENACOM) will be intervened for 180 days.

The decision was published in the Official Gazette Decree 89/24, which explains that its application responds to the provisions of an appeal of necessity and urgency signed by President Javier Milei “to strengthen the deregulation process initiated in the sector.”

According to the provisions, the task will be in charge of consultant Juan Martín Ozores and include an assessment of the current situation of ENACOM, besides its responsibilities and organizational structure.

The measure was criticized by Rodolfo Aguiar, secretary general of the National Workers’ Confederation, who stated that there is no reason for involving an organization that “plays an essential role in guaranteeing the plurality of voices, digital inclusion, and access to information for all social sectors.

Aguiar recalled that ENACOM guarantees Internet connectivity in areas where private companies, without the State’s funding, do not consider it profitable.
